STEP BY STEP READING, SPELLING & WRITING DYSLEXIA SEMINARS
Katherine Dee and Julie Ann Fleming have created a series of individual but linked webinars to support teachers, parents and SNA’s working in the primary school setting. With an M.Ed in SpLD (Dyslexia) and many years teaching experience supporting learners with Dyslexia, Katherine and Julie Ann have designed this series to help all learners who may be struggling with a specific element of literacy, or indeed be experiencing literacy difficulties across all three. We hope these webinars empower the attendees to re-evaluate their approach to in-class, small group and withdrawal support of learners with literacy difficulties. Each webinar is approximately 50 minutes in duration to allow for a Q&A session at the end. In brief these webinars:
• provide an overview of the reading, spelling and writing systems,
• - outline the difficulties attaching to the English language system,
• - focus on the practical application of strategies in the classroom,
• - suggest appropriate interventions and
• - discuss resources available to support learners, many of which can be adapted to suit a one-to-one, small group or whole class approach.
The Reading webinar looks at an introduction to word study, developing reading fluency, classroom approaches and resources and strategies to support struggling readers.
The Spelling webinar showcases adaptable approaches to develop familiarisation and understanding of spelling, instructional approaches for all learners and resources to support struggling spellers.
In the final and Writing webinar the fundamental skills of writing are addressed, the writing process, writing fluency and resources to support struggling writers are presented
